Moving to Tandem from another co-parenting app
Updated October 7, 2026 · General information, not legal advice
Start a free Tandem trial, export your history from your current app as PDFs and add them to your Vault, upload your parenting plan so Tandem builds your calendar, then invite your co-parent. Keep your old app until everything is across, and ask us for a switching code so you don't pay twice.
1. Start your trial
Sign up and create your family. It takes about five minutes and needs no card. Your co-parent can join later; you can start on your own.
2. Save your history from your current app
Most co-parenting apps let you download your messages, expenses and calendar as PDF reports. Look for "Reports", "Export" or "Print" in your app or its help centre. Save each report, then upload them to Tandem's Vault under Legal, so your full history stays in one place with the dates intact.
3. Set up your schedule
Upload your parenting plan or separation agreement and the Plan Parser reads the rotation, holidays, expense split and yearly deadlines. Check what it found, then confirm. No agreement to upload? Choose a common schedule and adjust it.
4. Invite your co-parent
From your Home screen, copy the ready-made message with your six-letter code and send it however you normally reach them. They join free; one subscription covers both of you.
5. Bring across the details
Add each child's allergies, school and contacts in Kids' info, and any recurring items from your agreement under Plan, such as notice deadlines or who holds the passports this year. Import email or WhatsApp threads into Records if you need them on file.
6. Avoid paying twice
Keep your old app until everything is across, then let it run out. If you're still paying for it, send proof on our switching page and we'll send a code for up to three months of Tandem free.
Questions
Will my old messages still count as a record?
Your exported PDFs keep their original dates and stay in your Vault. Whether any record is accepted as evidence is up to the court, so ask your lawyer.
Does my co-parent have to switch at the same time?
No. You can start on your own and invite them when ready. Until they join, your calendar, notes and imported records still build a timestamped record.
Can I get a discount for switching?
Yes. If you're still paying for another co-parenting app, send proof on the switching page and we'll send a code for up to three months free.
Start free for 30 days, bring your history across at your own pace, and your co-parent joins free.
